Bloomsburg Drops Close Game to West Chester

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost to West Chester on Wednesday night, 59-56, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game.

West Chester (9-10, 4-1 PSAC East) scored the first five points of the game before the Bloomsburg (5-15, 1-4 PSAC East) got on the board with a pair of free throws from Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) three minutes into the game, The Huskies would later tie the game at 10-10 on a jumper by Nicole Boone (Mountaintop/Crestwood) with 9:52 left in the first half. Both teams then went cold from the floor and went over three minutes without any points. Bloomsburg finally broke the drought with two more free throws from Kegerreis at the 6:26 mark. But, West Chester rallied and went to the locker room leading by two, 23-21.

West Chester opened the second half with a 9-4 run to take its biggest lead of the game, 32-25, before the Huskies came storming back. A 13-2 run capped by a three-pointer and layup from Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) put the Huskies in front 38-34. The lead would be short-lived however as West Chester scored five straight to regain a one-point margin, 39-38, with 8:55 to play in the game.

Bloomsburg answered right back and got a jumper from Kegerreis and a three-pointer from Boone to regain the lead, 43-41, with 7:15 to play in the game. The Huskies would later take their biggest lead of the game, 53-47, on a jumper by Kirby Johnson (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) with 5:25 to play.

West Chester came back and went on a 9-0 run to take a 56-53 lead with just 1:43 to play capped by a three from Natalie Winters. Bloomsburg tied the game one more time when Joyce hit a layup and a free throw wit 47 seconds left to play.

West Chester then worked the ball around and got the go-ahead basket and free throw from Dominque Lewis with 27 seconds to play. The Huskies did have one last shot to tie, but Gabe Miskinis' (Lewistown/Lewistown) three-point attempt was off-line with West Chester rebounding and running out the clock.

Bloomsburg was led in scoring by Kegerreis with 15 points, while Miskinis added 13 with Joyce adding 12 points. Boone had a solid all-around game with nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

West Chester got 16 points from Lewis with Winters getting 13.

The Huskies play at Mansfield on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
